Flourishing Structures

The Paseo Mural at 3rd and Fairfax is designed to create a unique and engaging experience for the viewer as they travel across the length of the pedestrian passage connecting Ogden Drive to Fairfax Avenue. The placement of this artwork will establish a visual landmark to enhance the journey of those traveling through this vital corridor that will serve as a vibrant fulcrum of the Park La Brea, Fairfax, and Hancock Park neighborhoods.

Layers of color and texture lead one along the artwork as familiar shapes start to emerge culminating in three distinct focal points where organic and geometric, natural and architectural, historic and timeless all converge into a site specific mural that could only exist here. Located amongst some of Los Angeles’ most significant landmarks, the artwork incorporates nearby elements from the city’s iconic art deco architecture, its diverse endemic flora, and the unique geology of La Brea. Echoing geologic formations, the foundation of the image is composed of gently flowing layers that weave together these contrasting elements to tell an abstract story that is symbolic of the past, present, and future of the neighborhood.
